Joystar Employee Spotlight - Meet Michele Lanthier & Mark Miley

Please join us in welcoming Michele Lanthier and Mark Miley to the Joystar family.  We are very proud to have both of them. We weren't even hiring. But, when people with the talent, experience, and passion come knocking (literally!) looking to make a contribution, you welcome them with open arms. I guess in order to be the "host agency of choice in the travel industry", you must also be the employer of choice in the travel industry.

Michele comes to Joystar with over 12 years experience in the travel industry. Originally from Orlando, Florida , she has worked with the Mark Travel Corporation and most recently with Travel Planners International.   Michele has extensive Cruise and Tour experience but her real passion is accounting. She is a bright new star in the already shimmering Joystar Commissions Department.

Mrs. Lanthier stated, "I value lasting relationships within the travel agent community and with my employer.  I am excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the increasing level of excellence at Joystar. I was looking for positive change in my career.  This is why I made the personal decision to move to South Florida and work exclusively with Joystar."

Mark brings with him over 15 years of travel industry experience and is a welcome addition to Joystar's Membership Department.  Mark has worked with The Walt Disney Company, Marriott, Cruises Only and most recently with Travel Planners International.

Mr. Miley stated, "I wanted to dedicate my experience and professionalism to a host that truly appreciates, rewards, and supports their staff and their agents. I knew I wanted to work for Joystar so I picked up the phone and called Big Bill.  Very soon I found myself on a 2,600 mile road trip from Florida to start a new life in Orange County California."

Here's to never looking back.

“Why is Peter Stilphen Such a Grumpy Old Agent?

Why is he obsessed with us and why does he write lies about our company? How can he call us a card mill when we've never issued a card? Why does he say we are an MLM when we are not nor ever have been?

Doesn't he care that by doing this he is attempting to hurt all of us (travel agents)?

I get these questions every now and then with a link to his pathetic blog. I don't think much of the comments because I know the truth and because, well, I'm busy.

I also have three years of email exchanges where he has stated, "I write these things in my blog in jest, and I consider Bill and his wife Kathy my friends.

What Peter failed to realize with his failed attempt to be witty is that a prank stops being funny when it hurts someone. And, when you start messing with Joystar agents and attempt to disrupt their livelihoods, you've crossed the line to a very bad place.

I heard it through the Gripe Vine that there is a new host agency getting ready to launch. One of our Joystar agents knows somebody who knows the web designer for their new site. He got ahold of their FAQs:

Plague Threatens Entire Travel Agent Community

If I’m going to be labeled, I guess I’m more Jeopardy than Wheel of Fortune (at least round one, anyway). On the rare occasion I do happen across a “Before and After” segment on the Wheel, I’ll usually stop channel surfing, and throw my hat into the competition. (BTW: Before & After phrases are two phrases or names hooked together by a common word that starts one and ends the other, e.g. "Whitney Houston Texas", a combination of Whitney Houston and Houston, Texas.)

Last week, after one such segment (and as my kids lined up to offer their congratulatory “high-fives”), the new Web-MD T.V. commercial aired. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s the one with the young man who boasts he spends so much time on the Website, he got Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.  Usually, this kind of humor would be right up my alley. This time, however, it wasn’t so funny.

You see, I’m recovering from CTS.  I know there are much worse things that can happen to a person but it really has been a long, very painful and debilitating ailment. Mostly, it feels like your thumb and two fingers are plugged into an electrical socket.

Another related pain (different body part) is constantly explaining why I am wearing the funny looking wrist brace that resembles the one Earl Anthony wore at his farewell Firestone Pro Bowling Tour Championship.

E & O Insurance and Home Based Travel Agents

There is nothing worse than paying for insurance. It’s like paying for a new roof. You can’t even see it. I would much rather spend my money on a new home theatre. Not a theatre system; a full-blown theatre in my new house.

The expense of insurance is one thing but there’s more to it for me.  Although I’m not as superstitious as some baseball players, I still feel squeamish when I write a check for insurance. Specifically, auto insurance. I feel like I am betting that I will get into an accident. If you had as much titanium in your body as I have in mine, you might see my point.
